17 October is also celebrated as International Poverty Alleviation Day. The day was established by the United Nations in 1992 to raise awareness about the issue of poverty and promote action to eradicate it.

The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is an opportunity to learn about the causes and consequences of poverty and take action to help solve it. It is also a day to celebrate the progress made in reducing poverty and recommit ourselves to achieving the goal of a poverty-free world.
